You need these Old Navy jeans, and I don't ever tell you guys that unless I'm serious.

I've shopped on and off at Old Navy ever since I began my blog. I like their budget friendly prices, but I have refrained from stopping there before because their quality can be hit or miss. I suppose that's true of all clothing chains, but I'd rather spend a bit more on things that are going to last than continue buying pieces that fall apart within a few washes.

Distressed denim is so trendy at the moment, and as much as I like a little "personality" on my jeans, I'm not going to fill my closet with them. Dark washed denim will always be classic and the most universally flattering. I also never get weird looks from my mom when I have on a nice pair! But when it comes to being a little trendy, I think I have finally found the best pair for the right price. So much so that I'm done buying jeans (for now).

I thought I'd throw an outtake into the mix. What am I doing ^ exactly? Trying desperately for a thigh gap 😁 I remember telling Nate that I was over it and wanted to grab a glass of wine at the restaurant next door! I think I was ready to run!

Back to the Old Navy jeans:

For reference, these are a size 8 regular. They are the rockstar mid-rise style and although I'm unsure of the name of the wash, I linked to them here and above. They are a bit long, but I folded them under and are honestly perfect that way. With heels, I'm sure I could wear them as they are. They are soft, perfectly ripped in all the right areas, and I love that they aren't too light.

I'm linking up with Amy Ann and Gina today for their new style series, so please feel free to check out their posts as well.

The past few seasons, I've really taken notice of the soft, draped jackets and vests that bloggers have been wearing. I love how easily they layer on top of other pieces, but don't add bulk to an outfit. However, they do instantly add a chic touch. Originally I was in the market for an olive green cargo vest, but after spotting this lovely variation at Target of all places, I decided that the feminine counterpart was much more my style anyway. It can be worn in so many different ways: with a tee and jeans, shorts and a tank, and on top of a little dress as I've done here. I like the contrast of sweet ruffles and cream lace with an "edgier" vest. I put the term in quotations because this is probably as edgy as I get! It's fun to try new trends while still remaining true to my own personal style. As the late great Oscar de la Renta famously said, "Fashion is about dressing according to what's fashionable. Style is more about being yourself." And these days, I'd rather be myself.

Although the fourth of July is sadly over (I had the best weekend and hope you did too), I'm still in the mood to wear blue and white! I don't own much red, so I decided on a cherry lip stain all weekend, almost like I had a popsicle permanently hanging out of my mouth! In looking through my closet the other day, I came to realize just how much blue and white I own! I mean honestly half of my wardrobe consists of these nautical colors. Maybe in my subconscious, I pick out oceanic hues because they make me feel like I'm by the coast. Or at the very least, by a pool! Blue has always been my favorite color, and I don't think that'll ever change.

Once in a blue moon, I get a kind email from a brand reaching out to me that I simply can't pass up. As a self-proclaimed beach girl, I love Summer because I can escape the desert heat in my hometown and make the forty-five minute drive to the coast for some relief! Third only to shopping and blogging, the ocean is one of my favorite things. Any chance I get, I'm by the water. Which brings me to these tank tops that Easy Livin' Tees sent over, as part of their Spring/Summer collection. I lived in them while I was on my Hawaiian vacation, and I'm even wearing "vitamin sea" now over my bikini. Whether you're running errands, having an outdoor BBQ, hanging out poolside, or taking a beach day, these little cotton tops with fun, catchy sayings are perfect. I especially love the fit of the "Summer lovin'" tank. It's fitted but not tight, and I love the Grease movie reference! Both tanks are  really soft and wash well. In fact, I've seen similar tops at surf shops that cost a ton more than these do, and yet these are just as adorable! They have other cute options on their website to suit any taste. I'm not typically big on graphic tees, but I can definitely get behind these because they are just so light and the quality is nice. I'll be living in them all season long.

Since I didn't want to waste precious beach time taking blog photos (aside from the one above), I took a cue from my blog friends and attempted some flat lays. I didn't photograph everything I wore, but pretty close! The best advice I can give when traveling, especially to a place like Hawaii, is to pack light and bring pieces that easily interchange with one another. Mix and match like a pro so you don't have to think about what you're going to wear each day. The point of my personal vacation style, and Summer in general, is ease and comfort. Now that doesn't mean looking like a slob. Simply put, it's about being in the moment and enjoying your experience rather than being a slave to fashion.

What's your Summer vacation style? Any tips?

These days, I'm reaching for anything but bright color. I don't have a specific reason or explanation why, I just seem to be enjoying a more neutral palette. I have a lot of labradorite jewelry, and I like wearing it with olive, grey, black, beige, and white. When I plan my outfits, I typically keep in mind what jewelry I'm going to wear and then dress accordingly. I know that may seem unusual! Most people keep the focal point on a pair of shoes or a great statement clothing item, but I like to pick out my jewelry and then have the rest of my look follow suit. Of course, this could change next week so I may contradict myself. I can't stop thinking about our upcoming Hawaii trip in the Summer, and I love wearing bold, vivid colors on the beach. Stella & Dot has some beautiful turquoise pieces right now so I'm waiting on an order. There's nothing prettier than a light tan and golden accessories to match the carefree feeling of Summer. I'm sure a lot of you are thinking about it too!

Chanello! It's probably one of the most memorable scenes from Sex and the City, when Charlotte and her event planner friend Anthony enter a Chanel store and see a strapping young door man. Who doesn't love Chanel? I do, but my friend thinks my quilted jumbo flap looks like, and I quote, "an old lady". What? Bite your tongue! Hey, those were her words, not mine. Anyway, I'm one of those weirdos who doesn't carry it as often as I should because there is no way in Hell I'm getting another one (unless we win the lottery). So I take care and guard it like it's made of pure gold.

We didn't go to brunch again this time, as you may recognize the stone wall from my this post. I just fell in love with the background, and while taking our dog for a ride, we decided to stop by again and snap some photos. It was difficult to resist the restaurant, so we popped in for a mimosa. If you guys follow me on Snapchat, you'll know that Nate and I are doing a 10 day detox. A smoothie for breakfast, a healthy salad for lunch, and a protein and vegetable for dinner. You can snack on raw veggies with hummus, mixed nuts like almonds or walnuts, and hard boiled eggs. We are almost done with the detox, but I'm enjoying the way I look and feel so much that we are going to just keep it going. Of course we'll allow a few indulgences here and there but overall, I think it's a great way to eat. If you want to read more about it, the link is here.

There's not much else in life I enjoy more than a good Sunday brunch. It doesn't even have to be a boozy brunch, although a good mimosa doesn't hurt. Bubbles in the morning can go one of two ways - it can jumpstart my day or it can render me completely useless. Most of the time, I don't put too much thought into what to wear. When it's Sunday, anything goes and I see that reflected in the places where we frequent. There's always a good mix of older people, extended families, and young ladies who look like they are in desperate need of a little hair of the dog. Hey, I've been there!

Anyway, my favorite spot to lazily enjoy Sunday mornings is Temecula Creek Inn, and that's exactly where we went. The restaurant overlooks the golf course, and though I don't know a thing about golfing, I do find the scenery beautiful. There was a group of fashionable girls sitting next to our table that I couldn't help but admire. One was wearing a beige mini dress with black booties and I made a mental note that I want to put a similar look together. If I saw it on Pinterest, it would have been immediately added to one of my boards. Does anyone else do this? I love people watching, and I honestly get so much inspiration when I'm just out and about doing mundane things. In fact, I chose this particular outfit after seeing these colors on a girl at Starbucks. Green and white...go figure!

Like most people, it's hard to describe my style in a sentence. I know what I like - feminine silhouettes, neutral shades mixed with pops of color, simple cuts and fabrics, and definitely what I refer to as "classic" leanings. But what does classic really mean? It's difficult to explain but for the purpose of this, I'll try. My interpretation of classic means that I like basic pieces that I can wear in a number of ways. I like to invest in essentials that I know will always be in style, whether it's 2016 or far into the future. Trends are fun to play with, but I prefer to save my money and keep those to a minimum. It really is consistent with my personality as well. I'm a bit (okay a lot) timid in life. I need to be pushed to try new things, and change isn't something I seek out. I'm a creature of habit, I like routine, and I think my personal style reflects that. Hopefully this doesn't make me sound like a wet blanket! I love clothes, but I just know what works for me. When I try to step out of my comfort zone, I always end up coming back to the classics.

And I always end up cheering when it's Friday. I'd say the weekend is classic too. Have a great one!

I'm usually happiest when the sun is shining and I can slip on a pair of sandals. You better like the heat if you choose to live in southern California, otherwise you'll most likely resort to packing a moving van. This comes to no surprise, but I really thought this Winter would be different with El Nino looming. Where is the rain? Where are the cold fronts? Nowhere to be found, and I'm beginning to think that maybe this won't be the year mother nature helps to end the drought after all.

I took the opportunity over the long weekend to wear this tropical maxi that I have in mind for my Hawaiian vacation in June. The back is especially pretty, with a strap criss-crossing down to the waist. Add some turquoise jewels and a beach tote and I'll be set! I love a good maxi dress, especially when it comes in petite friendly options with no visit to my tailor required. I've told you guys before, I'm lazy. I do realize the importance of getting clothes customized to your body for the most flattering fit, but I hate the extra cost. If you are a fellow shorty, LOFT has a few in stock in various colors. These dresses look great with moto or leather jackets layered too, making them perfect for transitional weather. I plan on trying that next, as long as the temps cool down.

How was your Valentine's day? Good I hope! Ours was, in theory, a big fat fail. We wanted to take the Palm Springs tram to a restaurant on top of a mountain, but the wait to board the tram was two hours and we wouldn't have made our reservation. Nate was bummed, but I really couldn't have cared less. We still had a great time walking around Palm Springs. It was my second trip in just a month, and I swear next time, I need to go shopping!

I still act like a giddy schoolgirl on Valentine's day. I don't know why, because I was never that giddy about it while I was in school. I was quite the wallflower, and I remember literally praying that I would get a bright red or pink carnation from one of the boys in my grade. I typically got one from an equally bashful girlfriend, but would pretend it was from a boy I had a secret crush on. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Fast forward to 2003, when I met Nate on a blind date right around V-day. Maybe that's why I love it so much. I don't want to get into detail, because I know more people who detest this holiday. I get it, I really do. Not only can it be annoying when you're single, but it can also be just as irritating when you're not. The whole, "we should appreciate each other year-round, and not just on Valentine's Day" has its merits. I love receiving flowers just because, not when Hallmark tells people to do so. But guys are pretty dense when it comes to romance, and I'll take what I can get.You gotta ask for what you want right?

Oh, and this is probably NOT what I'll be wearing on Valentine's Day. Picture a giant coat, wool leggings, and boots instead because our Sunday may involve snowy mountains. The weather has been pretty hot here the last couple of days though, so now I'm not so sure. I'll keep an eye on the forecast, because this peachy blush suede jacket IS pure love and I'm dying to wear it again. It's one of those pieces I have to pry off my body. It's gorgeous!

Cheeky little title. Every single time I put on a pair of boots, that song immediately comes to mind! Anyway, I really want to thank you ladies (and gentleman) for all of the feedback I received on my body image post last week. I was truly touched by your comments and own experiences, and I even got text messages from my best friends and mother on the subject! I don't think they read here often, but when they do, it means a lot to me. I wasn't sure what sort of response I would get, and I was humbled. Writing honestly has and always will be at the core of why enjoy blogging, and so I've decided to do posts like that more frequently. At least, when I get the itch to say something more relevant than simply describing what I'm wearing.

That being said, I do want to mention that these booties are my new favorite. I asked both Gina and Caryl for advice on them because I wasn't sure if I should get these or a black pair. They both chimed in that taupe was the way to go, and I'm so happy that I went with these. They are definitely versatile! I love how they blend into my legs and give the illusion of longer gams. If you don't have a pair of booties, I highly recommend a style like these. They don't come up as high on the ankle, so they don't cut off the leg line as much as other booties I've seen. These do come in other colors, and all of them are beautiful but I know that with Spring around the corner, these will transition seamlessly.
